Vanilla Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit

June 26, 2017 By Radhika Malhotra Leave a Comment

Learn how to make a simple Vanilla flavoured Panna Cotta with my recipe! Only 20 minutes and 5 ingredients, and this classic Italian dessert is ready to served!

Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit

In the summer season we all have our little reunions, and reunions call for guests, and guests call for a perfectly unique and intriguing menu! Having an exquisite looking (but oh so easy to make) dessert recipe up your sleeve is a must. So here’s my new go-to recipe which you can fix up a day in advance and present it the next day – Panna Cotta!

Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit

Panna Cotta is an Italian dessert made with milk, sugar, vanilla, cream and gelatine. This simple dessert is something an amateur could whip up in a matter of minutes. It starts with lightly heating milk with gelatine until it’s completely dissolved followed by sugar. Once this step is done, you just take your pan off the heat, add the cream and vanilla, and whisk. Next, just set in the refrigerator overnight or 7-8 hours in dessert cups or ramekins and Voila – you have your fancy-shmancy dessert ready!

If sweetness overload is a no no for you when it comes to desserts then Panna Cotta serves the purpose just right. I served mine with passion fruit, which was great to cut off the sweetness. But you could serve it with berries, berry sauces, mangoes, the possibilities are endless.  This dessert is all that a dessert should be. Easy to prepare, ready overnight, compliments almost almost all fruits. And the most important, you just need a handful of ingredients to make it and almost no efforts! So call over some loved ones, let them be awed by your new dessert this season!

Makes: 10 small servings
Ingredients
  • Milk, 1½ cups
  • Gelatin, 1 tablespoon
  • Caster Sugar, ⅓ cup
  • Heavy Cream, 1½ cups
  • Vanilla Essence, ½ teaspoon
  • Salt, a pinch
  • Passion Fruit pulp, to serve
Method
  1. Pour milk in a pan and sprinkle gelatine over it. Heat the pan on a really low heat and whisk until the gelatine is completely mixed.
  2. Once it is, add in the sugar and whisk again until the sugar melts too. Again, make sure that the heat is really low. The milk should not boil or steam at any point.
  3. Once the sugar is melted, take the mixture off the heat and add in the cream, vanilla and a pinch of salt. Whisk and pour it in ramekins. Chill overnight.
Notes
Make sure the milk does not boil or heat up too much. Keep the flame as low as possible.
I served my pana cotta in small plastic cups but you can serve it any container you like.
If you want to demould your pana cotta on a plate, dip the ramekin (or whatever container you're using) in warm water for a few seconds and the invert it over the plate. Slightly shake to help it come out and you're done!
