4 Baking Tips for Beginners

Baking tips for beginners: Be the champion baker you were meant to be with these easy but important tips.

Unlike cooking, baking can be a little tricky. It allows for little correction once you’ve completed a step and most of the time you don’t know you’ve made a mistake until it’s too late. So today, I am going to help you ace baking by sharing four vital tips that will help you perfect your skills.

  1. Measure your ingredients

While baking allows you to get creative with flavours, it leaves almost no wiggle room to experiment with the quantity of certain key ingredients. It is an art but also a science, which means to ensure the perfect texture and form you need to accurately measure every element beforehand. This is especially important for dry ingredients like flour and sugar that store pockets of air in the measuring cup.

  1. Rotate your baking vessel

Using ovens can be intimidating for many, especially since they don’t allow you to check up on your dish every 2 minutes. (If you open up your oven more than one or two times, you are interfering with the baking process.) One special trick to make sure your cake is baked all the way through is to rotate your baking pan 180 degrees halfway through the process. Most ovens have a specific hot spot and by doing this, you make sure that the entire cake is evenly cooked.

  1. Room Temperature is best

We all store our eggs and butter in the fridge, but using these ingredients at a low or a very high temperature could interfere with your final product by making it more tough and heavy than soft and light. Butter especially plays a vital role in your cake rising, if it’s melted it could give you a flat non-risen cake. Professionals insist that your ingredients should be room temperature and out of the fridge about 20-30 minutes before you start using them.

  1. Fold the dry ingredients

Another trick to make a soft and fluffy cake is to not over mix the dry ingredients. The best way to do this is by using the folding rather than stirring method. Start by using a silicon spatula to pour the dry ingredients and then fold it in the mixture by bringing in the batter over from the bottom of your mixing bowl.  This trick can also be used for lighter wet ingredients like whipped cream.

I hope these tips help you create your favourite sweet delights. I would love to hear about your experience with them, so try them out and share your thoughts!
